After several adventures, Falauna had finally reached her destination. The strange city was all around her and a room was given to her stay in until the time came to meet her betrothed. To say she was nervous was an understatement. She thought she lacked the social graces needed to be in a place such as this, but here was her future. Time would tell if she would fit in.

Falauna let out a large sigh that was clearly more of a shaky breath than anything else. Having been given the opportunity to clean up and change her clothes, she now looked natural. Her hair was naturally wavy and had various hues involved. It was mostly dark brown, but there were hints of red, blond and silver mixed in. Running her hands over her clothes, they at least fit the part of her position. As heir to the House Thorne, she needed to look like one.

Since she was one in touch with nature quite often, her clothes were earth tone. A combination of browns, oranges, and greens. Nothing bright or gaudy though. Her dress went to the top of her shoes and the tips of her toes peeked out from under it. At the moment she was shoeless and liked the feel of the rug under her feet.

Leaning against the windowsill, she looked out over the city below the inn and wiggled her toes. In a way, she was itching to get out and see what there was. Duty came first though and she waited to be summoned to meet Matthis. That sent her breath shaking again and she turned away from the window. Moving over to the bed, a soft knock came at the door.

Instead of sitting down, she went to the door to open it. A servant was waiting for her.

"Your escort is here to conduct you to our Lord. Please, follow me."

Barely giving her the chance to put her shoes on, he turned to walk away and take her below. He opened all the doors for her and then took her outside. Motioning to the escort, he led her to them and bowed his farewell.

"These men will take you to him. Good day."

It was just in time for dinner and the sun was just starting to set.

It had been a long day indeed for the Jarl. Much of his time recently had been spent in and out of meetings revolving around the new fortifications being made to the city, and creating refugee housing for the survivors of Nal Sur. As always, he and Jarvin spent most of their time together, orchestrating all of the happenings within the city. During his time in the military, Jarvin served directly under Matthis as is second in command, and since taking over as the head of House Roann, there was no one he trusted more than his brother at arms. Finally, though, their meetings were done for the time being. That however, did not mean that the Jarl was free to do as he pleased for the remainder of the evening. No, there was one thing that remained on his agenda.

Years ago, his father had put something in the works to marry Matthis to the lady of House Thorne. Though he had never met the woman before, he did have a feeling their marriage might become more than a mutual benefit to their houses, and was at least willing to give his late father’s idea a chance. Her name was Falauna Thorne. And, upon hearing of her arrival to Roarkrest, Matthis had made arrangements to ensure she would be well taken care of prior to their meeting. He prepared a room for her in Roannskeep, and made sure a fine supper would be ready for the two of them when the two would finally meet. And at last, that time was upon him.

The young Jarl waited in the main dining hall as his workers and servants made their final preparations. Many had already began to feast as Matthis entered the large hall, taking his seat at the head table near the back of the room. He smiled, looking around to see all of the tables decorated and dressed, covered with some of the hardy and some more delicate foods of the region. Roasted ham and large game birds, a series of root vegetables made with a delicious assortment of herbs and spices, and much more food had been set up. Matthis shuffled slightly in his seat, pouring himself a glass of wine to calm the nerves he was beginning to feel upon meeting the fine woman.

My lord,” the familiar voice of Haddick, his master servant, called to him. “It is my pleasure to introduce Head of her House, Miss Falauna Thorne.” The man bowed, gesturing to a young woman to his right. As Haddick made his exit, Matthis turned his gaze on the woman who would be his betrothed. A humble smile on his face as he looked her up and down before he rose to pull out the seat beside him for her to sit. “It’s a pleasure to finally meet you, m’lady.” He said, pushing her seat in as she sat down, taking his place beside her.

She was beautiful to be certain. ‘Well done father.’ He thought to himself, in admiration of her appearance. She was rather tall for a woman, but slim, her figure perfectly filling the dress she wore that night. She had golden-brown, almost hazel eyes, that paired wonderfully with her seemingly multicolored dark hair. He couldn’t help but smile as he looked at her, his mind quickly trailing off to some more primitive thoughts of what he wanted to do with her. However, he got a grip of himself, shaking the thoughts away and focusing on the present. “I’ve heard a lot about you Falauna, its nice to finally put name to face.” He said grinning. He grabbed her glass, filling it with the deep red wine from the carafe at the center of the table. “I hope your travels here went untroubled. I know Nal Akima can be a cruel place to those not prepared for it.” The Jarl did his best to make small talk before he took a sip of his wine, doing his best to hide how eager he was to actually begin their conversation.

She had been given the day to relax so she was not at all worn out from anything. Not as full of energy like a child would be, she was excited to meet her betrothed and nervous at the same time. Getting a firm grip on her emotions as they got closer to the hall where they were to meet. Never having been in such a large city, the grandeur was a surprise to her. Something she noticed about the people and related them to herself, it was clear she wasn't the only person to be coming here fresh from the country.

While Falauna came from someplace entirely different, she was still familiar with how these people acted and looked. This brought her a sense of comfort and allowed her to relax slightly. Those nerves were still there and that excitement bubbled inside of her.

Her journey to the hall was almost silent and the men escorting her really did their job well. When they arrived, another man stepped forward to take her in. The guards turned on their heals and left Falauna to go up to the next man waiting for her. He already knew to expect her and her name. Asking her to follow him, she fell into step with him and looked at the hall around her.

As they walked, the smell of the foods reached her nose and set her stomach growling and mouth-watering. Even though she had been given lunch, there was nothing compared to a feast. Lifting her head just slightly, she breathed in through her nose and let that out through her mouth. Regaining her composure, her timing was perfect as they rounded the corner to enter the hall where all the food was being served.

Stopping when Haddick announced her, this gave her an opportunity to assess the man she was here to meet. He wore a smile and seemed like he wanted to welcome and comfort her. Not a garish smile or one that was full of ego. Just a simple smile that drew her to him. Giving Mattis a return smile and nod of her head, she joined him at the table. Taking the seat he pulled out for her, she noticed he was taller than her by several inches. He had brown hair and blue eyes that carried intelligence and humor.

"My lord, thank you for having me."

Her parents had not told her very much about him so Falauna needed to know more. His comment about having already heard a lot about her didn't have her concerned at all. Time would be given to them to get to know each other more, this was just the beginning.

"They were mostly untroubled, my lord. One of your men came to my rescue not long after I left my home. He made sure I got here safely."

Accepting the drink he offered, she held it to her mouth and took a sip. Smiling slightly as she set the glass down, she couldn't help but agree with his comment.

"I had little preparation before arriving here. Your people have been most welcoming and helpful."

The Jarl grinned looking over to the woman. He nodded, “Glad to hear it.” He said, taking a sip from the wine goblet. Matthis leaned back a little in his seat before turning his attention to the empty plate before him. He shuffled slightly, reaching out in front of him to load his plate with a few small portions of the different foods displayed out on the table. “Help yourself to whatever you’d like.” He said with a smile, resting back in his chair. “You’ll find much of the people in Vestkystenhold are more than likely less formal than what you might be used to. Especially when it comes to food.” He said with a small chuckle.

Matthis took a few bites of the smoked meats and braised vegetable he placed on his plate before taking another sip of wine. He let out an audible sigh of relief as the familiar but slight burn of alcohol touched the back of his throat. While he would never admit to being a drunk by any means, he and his people did often indulge in such things. Matthis was raised to know there was a time and place for drink, and did his best to remind himself that as a leader he must always be in a place to maintain control, and drink was no exception.

There was a happy expression on his face that shone through his nearly exhausted exterior. He had so much on his plate as of late, and he was finally able to relax a bit and forget about the war that was brewing just beyond the mountain. “So, Falauna,” he started, “I have had a bit on my mind involving our… situation.” he said, after a slight pause. “While my father wanted to put this in place before he passed, I do agree with him that the merge between our houses would be very much mutually beneficial. That being said, my father is no longer with, and the both of us are adults, so I see no reason why we need to continue down this path if either of us feel this relationship would not work. For whatever reason.” Matthis turned in his chair to look over to the woman, hoping that she would understand what he meant and accept his point of view.

I would very much like to give this a chance,” he continued, “but again, if at anytime you want to end the arrangement, it is more than within your rights to do so.” He offered her a friendly smile as he spoke, looking her body up and down. His gaze seemed to linger in some places, taking notes of the fairness of her skin, how soft she looked to the touch, and more, but he quickly shook off the thoughts bringing himself back to the moment. He just hoped she didn’t catch him staring, mostly. Matthis turned back to his plate, taking a few more bites, followed by a drink of water and wine to wash the meal down.

Again, his eyes turned to look at his betrothed, sucking in every ounce of her that he could in that brief moment. There was something about her Matthis could not quite put his finger on that was truly enticing. In his past, Matthis was never the best when it came to courtship. He always seemed to have women around him, but for one reason or another things just never worked out in the end. Perhaps it was about time to give an arranged relationship a shot. After all, what was the worst that could happen? Surely nothing that hadn’t happened to him before.

For the moment, they each had the other's undivided attention. Once permission was given for her to take anything of the foods offered, Falauna also started to fill her plate. She took a small sample of the meats and many of the greens. Her home food was more plant-based than anything animal, so she used to having lots of greens and less meat. It almost seemed to be the opposite here.

"There are times and places where it needed to be formal. This meeting was one such instance. I can be less formal and be myself at the same time."

Looking at him as she spoke, the full plate sitting in front of her, she took another sip of the wine. The wine was entirely different than the whites she was used to. Much heavier and had a headier smell to it than anything else she had come across before. Setting the glass down, she turned some of her attention to the food on the plate.

Most of it could be eaten with one's fingers, but it wouldn't be considered finger food. When Matthis talked again, she looked up at him and listened. After a few moments, her heart felt like it would jump out of her throat, but that calmed down as he continued speaking. He closed his statement with a friendly smile. While he was staring at her, her own eyes fell to her plate. For almost the same amount of time it took for him to speak, she was quiet and it was clear she was thinking of what to say. Finally, she looked up again and met his gaze.

"I agree to those terms. It is heartening to know that we each have the option to call this off if either of us wants to. Though, like you, I would rather give the arrangement a chance and opportunity to grow and flourish. We have but just met, it would be foolish to throw away something that was worked on long ago and agreed to by our fathers."

Blinking her eyes, she could almost feel them growing old together. In her heart, she felt this was the correct position for her. At his side and as his wife. Time would tell if that feeling was mutual or just some wild fancy of a young woman with a crush on her betrothed.

Growing up, Falauna had not given much thought to what she found attractive or not. She had been focused on the dreams and ambitions she had to think of a partner. Now she was staring at the man who was supposed to be just that and she liked what she saw.

Not one to covet power or position, that did not matter to her. Each of them brought this to the table and they were equal in that manner. What she did see was a man in his prime, one that could make a good husband and provider. His looks were excellent and she was drawn once again to him. His blue eyes were a striking difference to his dark hair. Those pools of blue, she looked deep into to try and gain some sort of inner knowledge of who he really was.

"Time will tell all."

The statement was hardly more than a whisper, but Falauna assumed he would hear it. Time really would tell and she hoped it worked out. Right now, she wanted nothing more than be the betrothed they were and get to know each other.

He caught the slight whisper, nodding to himself in agreement. Time indeed. He took another few bites, trying to mull over the rest of what Falauna had said, and thinking of a way to respond proper. He was happy to know that she was in agreement with him. Both parties wanting to try and make things work, but Matthis ultimately wanted Faluana to be with him because she wanted to be with him, not because of some contract made by their fathers. Either way, he was glad to see that she was willing to give this a shot.

The Jarl reached over to refill his wine glass, offering to top off Falauna’s glass as well before leaning back into his seat. He swirled the deep red liquid in its cup before taking another small sip, feeling the warmth of the alcohol starting to come over him. He set the glass down before looking back over to her, ready to speak. “Well, I’m happy to know we are both in the same boat.” He laughed slightly, looking over to the woman. “And please, if there’s ever anything you need, or want to talk about, I want you to know you can always speak freely to me. I don’t want there to be a break in communication between us if this is ever to play out the way our families intended. My father always used to say ‘All relationships start with trust, without that, there is no foundation.’” He seemed to laugh a bit at the old man’s words, making a poor imitation of him, but he knew the truth to what was said.

Matthis began to finish off the rest of his plate, before eventually making an attempt to get to know the woman better. “I have an idea.” He said, a small smirk growing across his face. “Let’s play a little game, shall we? It’s a “get to know you better” sort of game I used to play with my men in the army. Builds comradery, you know?” His face seemed to glow as he talked about his past, for Matthis did indeed love the years he spent in the Roann’s-guard. “It’s pretty simple, the game is called “never have I ever,” and goes like this. I make a statement like “Never have I ever fallen off a horse.” And if you have fallen off a horse, you drink, and if you haven’t, I drink. Pretty simple, and it only gets better the longer the game goes on.” Matthis smiled to her, hoping she would take his offer for the game. At the very least, it would lighten things up a bit, he thought. Take the edge off, so to speak. And, help the two get to know each other.

As the game goes on, we can add more to it, adding more to the statement. But, keep in mind, whatever you say, has to be the truth.” Matthis grinned to her, his eyes seeming to glisten in the flickering light of the fire at the center of the room. He took in a deep breath, feeling a calm sensation going about him as he looked at her. There was indeed something about this woman that he could feel was bringing him in. Perhaps tonight would go better than he planned. “I’ll start,” he said, taking a small sip of wine to start things off. “Never have I ever crossed the seas.” He said with a smile. A cheap shot, to start, obviously Falauna had done that very thing just to get to Nal Akima. Nevertheless, he leaned back in his chair with a smirk, crossing his arms across his chest.

For a few long moments that were probably just a few seconds, they were silent. Both thinking about what had just been said. Swirling the wine in her glass, when he offered to top it off, she held her glass out to him. They both wanted to see if this arrangement worked and would try to make that happen. Contract or not, Falauna felt this was right. Not desiring to try and see their future, she pushed aside her ability and decided to allow things to happen between them naturally.

He opened the door by indicating that if she needed anything or wanted to talk about something, all she had to do was ask. As he finished his statement, she almost drew in a sharp breath. His words went straight to her heart and if whatever reason they did not marry, she had the feeling they would forever remain friends and allies. Though, she was now pretty much firmly attached to the idea of becoming his wife and lady.

"Any relationship needs a firm foundation. I trust you, Matthis."

Her face was serious when she said that, but there was a light in her eyes that could speak for her feelings on the matter. They indicated she agreed entirely. Feeling they were off to a good start, he then proposed a game. Almost from the moment, she sat down, her nerves had been settled. As they talked, ate and shared the drink, they remained that way. Maybe it was some sort of magic, but she didn't think so.

"You're on."

Giving him a grin, she took the drink of wine required in reply to his turn. Doing an almost equally cheap shot, hers was also the truth.

"Never have I ever been in the army."

Waiting to see what the next one would be, she wondered just how this night would end. Most likely with her face planted in her food.

He chuckled at her next statement, offering a small grin before raising his glass to her slight and taking a drink. So far, off to a good start. He was sure that as the night went on, things would stay on their pleasant track, but he would be lying to himself if he didn’t hope the night would end with the two of them in bed together. He smirked at the thought, telling himself that it might be better to give the woman space for the night. While he didn’t want to put off any advances she might make, he didn’t want her to feel taken advantage of if the night did indeed turn that way. Besides, if they were to be wed, there would be plenty of time for that in the future.

After he put his glass back down, Matthis brought his hand to his chin, thinking of what he might bring up next. He did want to get to know the girl, after all, so it might be a better idea to lay off the cheap shots for a time, even though it was all in good fun. “Never have I ever lied to those important to me.” He said, a humble expression on his face. A bold statement, to be certain, but he wanted to give her a sense of comfort if they were to be together. Matthis himself, was nearly honest to a fault, often putting himself in harm's way, so to speak, to help others get out of sticky situations. It was partly of what he expected of those in a position like his own, taking full responsibility for one’s actions. And to add to that, taking responsibility for the actions of those in your charge, much of which he did during his time in the army.

He took a small sip of water, going back to his food slightly before turning his focus back to Falauna. “You know, I am quite fond of my time in the army. I feel like it played a lot to who I am. My father, of course, did not approve, as my house is more known for its craftsman or scholars than it’s warriors. He felt I was throwing my life away, at first, but in the end, he was proud of me for making the decision I did.” He had a subtle grin on his face as his focus seemed to drift for a moment, before he eventually went back to meet the woman’s gaze. “I will say, though, that it was not an easy eight years of my life. But I wouldn’t trade it for anything.

Matthis leaned back in his seat as he looked to his partner. He couldn’t help but smile as his gaze settled on her form. It was a strange feeling to him, where the relationship between them felt new and exciting, and he hoped that the light he had in his eyes when it came to Falauna would never fade. While part of him knew that no matter how things turned out that the two would always be close, there was another part of him that felt that this would turn into something he had never had before. He could see their future together, and it was a happy one.

If he had given voice to his thought about things getting off to a good start, she couldn't have agreed more. So far it seemed they were going to be a matched pair and would get married as their fathers wanted. Even though they had only just met, the budding relationship was going to get a solid foundation and grow from there. Wanting to allow this to be natural and nothing forced, she hoped he felt the same way.

Matthis took the drink he was supposed to and while he was thinking about the next challenge, she ate a little more of the food in front of her. When he came up with his truth, she lifted her glass, but only took what could be seen as half of a sip.

"What child does not lie at some point in their lives? However, once I grew up more, I have not lied to those important to me."

Hoping that a small sip was satisfactory along with her answer, Falauna set her glass down and looked up at him as he spoke. She felt their pasts helped make them who they were now, so it was good to know he felt the same way. Smiling a little when he said his father hadn't approved of his choice, it had been the same for her.

Lifting the glass holding the water, she tipped it in his direction in a little toast.

"To defying what our fathers wanted."

Sipping the water, she put the glass down again and took another bite of her food. It was as if it was only the two of them in the room. Conversation was happening around them, but he had all of her attention.

"I am unsure what my father really wanted for me to become as I grew up. When I was little, I went outside and made friends with other children. Being nobility, my parents frowned on this. As I aged, they changed their minds and allowed me to follow my dreams.

"I'm not a fighter, but more of a diplomat. A peacekeeper maybe even."

Remembering the advice given to her by Araborn, she kept entirely silent on the fact she could use Myst and what her abilities were outside of what another person that couldn't use it would be able to accomplish.

Her silence didn't last long before thinking of her next never point.

"Never have I ever not listened to what somebody was saying."

That was something about Falauna, she listened to what others had to say and wanted to be heard back just as much.

He smiled to Falauna, accepting her half sip, and accepting her small toast, though he instead opted to take another sip of wine. After everything that was going on with him lately, there was a part of him that truly wanted to ease the tension he could feel within himself, and there were few better ways to do that than getting himself drunk, followed with a solid night’s rest.

Matthis listened intently to the brief explanation she would give, admitting at the end she had no real idea of what was expected of her. He smirked at that. Matthis had always know what had been expected of him when it came to his father. He was always seen as a prodigal son who would eventually end up in the very position he held to date. It was a good life, and he knew that the type of person he was raised as needed that pressure to keep himself moving forward. Now, Matthis probably wouldn’t have any idea of what to do with himself if he didn’t feel the pressure of leadership.

After Falauna gave her statement, Matthis couldn’t help but laugh a little as he took another sip from his glass. “Now don’t get me wrong,” He started, placing his glass back on the table. “I do my best to hear out my people when it comes to a political or safety matter, and whatever else shows up in the general court rooms, but when I first took over, sometimes it was just so hard to pay attention all the time. My father’s old friend, Torus, still sits on our council as an advisor, and truth be told, without the help of that old man, I don’t think I would have lasted a week in this position.” He laughed slightly, feeling the alcohol beginning to warm his cheeks. He was glad to be honest about it. Even though it might have been a blow to his pride at first, Matthis did not want to hide anything from Falauna, and wanted nothing more than for her to know the real him.

Their game would continue for a few more rounds, each of them finding out more and more about each other as things went on. After a while, Matthis could feel himself succumbing to the effects of the wine. His entire body felt warm and his head felt light. He was full of laughter and enjoyment, and was absolutely intoxicated by the woman at his side. If tonight had any implication as to what their future together would be like, Matthis was in for a wonderful ride. Despite them just meeting earlier that day, he felt in that moment he would do anything to see Falauna smile, and he would do everything in his power to keep her happy if she chose to be with him.

It has been so nice to let things go for a while Falauna.” He eventually said. “I’m glad we finally had the chance to meet. I don’t know what it is about you, but I feel like we’ve known each other for a lifetime already.” He paused for a minute, hailing over a servant to take the empty plates before them, and asking for a new carafe of wine. “Forgive me if I’m being forward, but I really do hope this works out between us.” Matthis looked at her with a starry gaze. A soft smile rested on his face as he looked at her figure, wanting so badly to touch her in that moment. “I believe it’s your turn.” He said softly, locking his eyes with hers.

She really had not intended for her statement to bring any hit to his pride, but that is exactly what happened. Matthis did not let onto this at all and appeared to be relieved he could be so honest. Not sensing any deception from him, Falauna allowed the evening to progress.

With each turn, they got to know each other just a little bit more. This wasn't just a surface getting to know themselves, but something deeper. Forging a solid foundation and this was something she wanted more than anything.

What he learned were some of her hopes and dreams that she had as a child. The fact she was a fledgling alchemist and could create poisons, antidotes, and potions. They might not be that strong or powerful, but some were quite deadly. He also might be able to read under some of what she said and realize she could use the Myst...though she never said that exactly.

Time passed quicker than she thought and after what seemed like only a short amount had passed, she noticed it was much quieter in the hall around them. Falauna did not want the dinner or evening to end, but like Matthis, the food and drink were getting to her. This could be seen as both good and bad. The woman was finally tired after her long day, no longer was she stressed but she also quite tipsy and maybe even drunk.

In her drink clouded mind, she felt at home with him. As if her soul had connected to him long ago, she felt like she belonged here. Without knowing where she was originally from, maybe this was where she would have originated. It didn't matter, what did was the man next to her and the growing bond that seemed to have somehow started long ago.

Giving Matthis a large smile, her eyes glittered at what he said.

"Our lifetime has just begun and I too hope this works out. My turn huh?"

While she thought her words came out clearly, there was always the chance they were slurred. Drink had a way of loosening lips and make people seem brave. It's exactly what happened. The liquid courage helped her in a way to make this next statement. However, it was true.

"Never have I ever been truly kissed."

There was a calming still around the room as she spoke, as if Falauna and Matthis were the only two in the hall. While that wasn’t quite the case, many of the people who had entered the room initially had all departed for the evening, but he was happy to still be there with her. Matthis leaned back in his chair, almost smirking at the final statement she would offer. Although it very well could have been the drink going to his head, they way she said it sounded almost like an invitation to him. After all, they were to be wed, right?

His head tilted slightly, a small smile across his face as the Jarl reached over to take a sip of his wine. “Now I find that hard to believe.” He said, almost whispering, but loud enough for Falauna to hear. He gazed at her with a longing look in his eyes, as if his stare was pulling the layers away from her body to view the woman at her core.

There was a strange feeling in his stomach as he looked at her, something many would explain to be butterflies. It was unusual for him to have feelings like this, but they seemed welcomed in the moment. As he looked at her he could feel a flood of emotions begin to reveal themselves, but nothing seemed more clear to him then, than his wanting for her. His eyes lingered on hers as the air around them grew still. With a smile, Matthis took one more sip from his glass and leaned in to press his lips to hers.

Matthis breathed in Falauna’s scent as he kissed her, letting all of his feelings flow between them. He could feel the blood rushing through his veins as his heart began to race. Matthis reached his hand slowly behind her, taking the woman into a soft embrace, wanting to savor the moment as long as he could. Her smell, her taste, the feel of her skin on has. It was all so overwhelming. As he slowly began to pull himself away, Matthis let out a small chuckle between his smile. “Well I guess you can’t use that one so much anymore.

Matthis leaned back into his chair, though he let his hand linger on hers as the smile kept to his face. Matthis turned to his goblet, taking the last few gulps of the liquor before turning back to Falauna, an almost devilish grin on his face. “You know, I told myself I wouldn’t, but would you like to have another drink or two somewhere a little more private? I have a fire going in my chambers.” He said, looking her up in down, lust beginning to grip him. “But of course, if you think it might be too soon for that, I would respect the choice to return to your own quarters whenever you wish.” He said, at least giving her the option.

There was the chance their shared drinking brought Matthis enough courage to kiss her, but in reality that is exactly what she wanted. He said he found it hard to believe, but as of yet, neither one of them had tried to lie or be deceptive. Not that Falauna ever intended to do that. The man next to her was quickly growing into somebody important to her, as they had both stated earlier, they wouldn't lie to one of those kinds of people.

Their eyes met and both of them seemed to look deep into each other. She could see the lust in his. While she was certainly attracted to him, a small part of her did not feel it was the correct time to give in to these feelings. A different kind of nervousness came over Falauna.

Knowing what her statement would cause, she fully accepted what happened. Their lips met and she breathed in through her nose. Smelling the fire, food and everything Matthis was, it almost made her feel drunker than she already was. Moving in as he pulled her to him, the temperature felt like it climbed around them. Eventually, the kiss had to end and he moved away from her. Keeping his hand on hers, she looked down at that and knew they would be like this again.

"Nor do I want to use that again."

Her breathing was fast and shallow. Unintentionally holding her mouth open just slightly, he might also notice the pulse on her neck was high. Even though they held hands, they leaned back into their chairs after that first kiss. Both for them and her for her entirely. She couldn't have asked for a better first kiss.

His question broke the calm and content silence between them. What he offered was very tempting, but a few things held the woman back. Probably the biggest factor in her decision was this was their first meeting. Each of them had finished off more wine than she had ever consumed before and might not be thinking entirely clearly. Another reason was her personal concern for her reputation. So far it was spotless and she wanted to keep it that way. What would he think of her tomorrow if she followed her desires tonight? What would she think of herself?

Giving his hand a squeeze if he allowed her to, she looked a little torn with her wording and the choice she made. Drunk or not, she gave both options thought. Drinking down the last of her own wine, she was silent until setting the glass down. Meeting his eyes again, Falauna swallowed before speaking.

"I do not feel it is the right time yet. That will come, but not tonight. Would you want to escort me to my quarters?"

Feeling it was the proper choice, she did not want him to feel like she was turning him down totally. Besides, she wouldn't mind another kiss, even if it was one that would end their first evening.

Although he might have been a little disappointed that she would choose to stay apart for the night, Matthis did not take her choice with a heavy heart. On the contrary, he was quite optimistic about their future together, and had figured that would be her choice anyway. But, he would have been kicking himself all night long if he didn’t at least give it a shot given the circumstances.

He smiled as Falauna gripped his hand, and nodded his head smiling, taking up her offer to walk her back to her quarters. He did so much enjoy her company, and it would be a pleasure for him to ensure she made her way back through the halls safely and soundly. “I’d be more than happy to.” He said softly, his eyes drifting back to hers. “Here, let me help you from your seat.

As Matthis stood, he could feel the flow of his drink come over him. He was warm in all the right places with a belly full of wine, and Falauna at his side. Though he did drink enough wine for most to be completely intoxicated, Matthis did have a bit more constitution in that regard. He was drunk, sure, but he was more than capable of walking without seeming so. After he rose, Matthis pulled Falauna’s chair from the table, offering her a hand to help her stand. “I have to say, I am a little impressed you’ve been able to keep up with an Akiman.” He said with a chuckle, as he implied about the amount of alcohol each of them ingested.

Should she take his arm, Matthis would take the lead as the finally made their way out of the feasting hall. As the walked, Matthis pointed out a few key locations within Roannskeep, showing her the war room, the council room, the study, and a few other places. Eventually, they would end up at Falauna’s room, a faint light shining from under the door crack. “I had Lissibeth ready a warm bath for you and have a fire ready for your return, so your room should be more than ready for you. I hope the bath water is still temperate, though.” He said with a slight laugh.

As he looked at her, preparing to head back to his own quarters, The Jarl’s eyes would linger on hers for a still moment. “My room is down the hall, though Lissibeth should be close by if you need anything during the night.” He said softly, locking eyes with her. Matthis could feel a fire light behind his eyes as he looked her up and down, taking not of all the subtleties about her figure. He moved his hands to her hips, pulling her body close to his as he gazed at her, bending his neck down to give her one final taste before his departure. He kissed her deeply but softly, wanting to badly to grip her form with everything he had. Though he held back his primal and lustful urges, Matthis was quite content as they stood in the hall in each others embrace.

As he finally pulled himself away, there was a longing feeling for her touch even before the woman left his sight. He knew that this would have to take time, and space would be needed between them, but he did not want to spend a second away from her. He looked at her with starry eyes, before he finally pulled himself away, holding her hands in his. “Goodnight, Falauna.” He whispered, before making his way down the hall to his own quarters.

From what Falauna could tell, he might be disappointed, but he didn't take it personally. She was thankful for that and his acceptance raised her respect for him. She kept her virtue and her own self-respect. As she had hoped, he agreed to walk her to her quarters.

Over the years, Falauna had learned how to drink. Even if it had never been red wine, alcohol was all the same in a way to her. By keeping a balance between food and drink, she was not as drunk as she would have been if there was only the wine involved in their game.

Standing up slowly, the room spun for a moment or two and then settled back down. There was a bit of a gleam in her eyes when he commented he was impressed with her ability to keep up with his drinking.

"I learned a trick to that when I was but a child. I'll teach it to ours."

Maybe that was said on purpose or perhaps it was the drink talking, but the words were out and could not be unsaid. However, she did not appear to be embarrassed by having said it. Wanting to know how he felt about the statement, she was silent and took his arm.

Giving her a bit of a tour, she tried to remember where everything was. What was important was where their rooms were located. Stopping as they reached her door, Matthis told her a little bit more and then leaned down for the last kiss of the night.

Almost melting into him, the shadow they cast on the wall almost looked like they were united already. Her own urges were pushed down, even if she did not fully understand what it was she was feeling. When he pulled away, she allowed her hand to linger on his for just a moment longer before turning into her room and closing the door.

Taking a few breaths leaning against the door, she looked at what was prepared for her. The room was larger than what she'd had at the inn and even her own home. Rugs were on the floor and there was no chill in the air. A fire burned and looked like it was starting to get ready to be put to bed itself. Burning low, it still provided some light and warmth.

It did not take her long before finding herself soaking in the warm water of the bath and allowing the stress of the day to wash away. Thoughts now turned to the evening and what she felt about the situation. Having been nervous about the meeting for as long as she could remember, now that it was over, she relaxed. Closing her eyes, all she could see was Matthis. Feeling that come Hell or high water, she would do everything in her power to make their relationship work out.

Knowing she shouldn't fall asleep in the bath, the climbed out after washing and went to find some night clothes for herself. Lissibeth had laid one out that was on the bed. After putting that on, she crawled into bed and closed her eyes for the night. Not stirring until the next day.
